The first reports on the cultivation, in the lowland of Parma, of the Fortana del Taro vine, native to this area and which today boasts the title of Typical Geographical Indication (IGT), date back to this century.
In the early 16th century, Agostino Gallo composes an essay in which he describes the productive and organoleptic characteristics of Fortana, indicating it as perfectly compatible with the local culinary art.
The origins of Cantine Bergamaschi date back to the beginning of the century, when Mr. Demetrio Bergamaschi, the Grandfather of the current owners, buys a tavern starting the production of wine according to the traditional techniques used in this area.
In the following years, Mr. Pietro Bergamaschi, son of Demetrio and great lover of local wines, mixes the tradition inherited from his father with the knowledge of most recent wine production techniques developed in those years.
At the beginning of the 70's Mr. Pietro Bergamaschi together with his sons Demetrio and Maurizio, develop their own grapes production: in the family property known as "The Pink Farm", they plant their first Fortana, a strong and vigorous vine which has a limited production and still today represents one of the most appreciated wine of the catalogue.
A few kilometers from Busseto, the birthplace of Giuseppe Verdi, in the heart of the Food Valley, are born the Cantine Bergamaschi s.r.l., where the two brothers work and bottle in compliance with the culture and tradition of wine-making typical of the area.
